Late Bloom aims to explore the concealed emotions that lie underneath the hard shell of a Black man. There is a notion that they must be the spearhead of the family and show no weakness — during lockdown a lot of people had the chance to slow down and discover therapy, learning how to approach and heal from long standing trauma, grief, and suppressed emotions -- all in a productive way that's not destructive to the psyche. Late Bloom addresses this dichotomy directly, and how Francis must work through his vulnerabilities to live on.

Our film will be staffed by Bay Area filmmakers and creatives, representing a nexus of local perspectives and influences. Being made in true Bay Area independent spirit, we hope the film will serve as a source of inspiration amongst our local film community, affirming that we are able to live and tell our stories right here at home. Additionally, the tender and organic nature of the film will be brought out by our decision to shoot on a combination of 35mm and 16mm motion picture film.
